Bobble Babble: Shohei Ohtani was a superstar in Japan with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters who transitioned to Major League Baseball after the 2017 NPB season. His posting opened a competitive sweepstakes among many big-market clubs, but it was the Angels that won the bid. Ohtani officially signed with the Los Angeles Angels on December 8th, 2017 and joined the club for the 2018 season. Ohtani’s signing raised the possibility of a legitimate two-way star in modern baseball, with elite level hitting and pitching, something not seen since the early days of the game. His arrival instantly grew the Angels’ global profile, and impacted ticket and merchandise sales in both the U.S. and Japan.
