Bobble Babble: Mike Trout’s very first bobblehead celebrates his 2012 Rookie of the Year award, and features Trout mid-air in his legendary “wall catch.” The date was June 27th, 2012, and the Angels were in Baltimore playing the Orioles. Ervin Santana was pitching for the Angels and J.J. Hardy was batting for the birds. In the bottom of the first inning, Hardy hit a deep fly ball to straightaway center field. It looked like a sure home run, but Trout, then just 20 years old, took off instantly, sprinting toward the wall, perfectly timing his leap. With his glove extended fully over the top of the fence, he snatched the ball out of the air, robbing Hardy of a home run by several feet. This is still considered one of the greatest defensive plays in Angels history, and frequently replayed during Trout highlight reels and MLB promotions. This bobblehead does a great job capturing this moment.
