Bobble Babble: Mike Scioscia stepped down as Angels manager after the 2018 season, ending a 19-year run in Anaheim that included a World Series title, six division crowns, and 1,650 career wins. His departure was announced as his decision, though it came after years of increasing scrutiny and occasional public friction with the front office. During the 2010s there were repeated media reports of tension between Scioscia and front-office voices (notably GM Jerry Dipoto and later organizational differences over analytics and player development). Those stories grew louder during the club’s middling seasons and contributed to speculation that his 2018 exit might not be wholly voluntary. Scioscia and team officials both denied that he’d been pushed out, and the public statement called it his choice. But ultimately it was a bummer to see him go. The Angels have yet to make any “front-office” bobbleheads.
