Bobble Babble: The Angels acquired Rod Carew from the Twins before the 1979 season, largely at his request after a contract dispute with Minnesota. California immediately became a contender thanks to his presence in the lineup. Carew didn’t hit for power and didn’t steal bases like in his Twins MVP days, but he remained a master of contact hitting, line-driving nearly everything, and carrying very high OBPs. He played for the Halos from 1979 to 1985 and earned four additional All-Star selections during this time. The Angels retired his number, 29, following his last season with the team.
