Bobble Babble: The Angels acquired catching prospect Logan O’Hoppe from the Phillies on August 2nd, 2022, in exchange for outfielder Brandon Marsh. The deal brought a top one-time Phillies prospect into the Angels system and set up O’Hoppe’s rapid rise to the big leagues. The Halos wanted to shore up their catching pipeline with a high-ceiling, offensive-minded backstop. O’Hoppe was one of the better catching prospects in baseball at the time. Philadelphia aimed to add outfield depth/defense (and a major-league ready outfielder) for their playoff push. Marsh fit that role. Ultimately, it was a good trade for the Angels, but individually Marsh has enjoyed playoff appearances that he never would have as an Angel. Also, as a quick side note, this bobblehead giveaway night was the least attended in the history of Angel SGAs with just under 24k fans. But O’Hoppe would make up for it the following year.
