Bobble Babble: Darin Erstad was selected by the Angels as the #1 overall pick in the 1995 draft, becoming one of the highest-profile prospects in team history. He made his MLB debut on June 14th, 1996, and quickly became a spark plug in the Angels’ lineup. His intensity, defense, and contact hitting made him a cornerstone of the late-1990s Angels. With the exception of one final season with the White Sox in 2009, Erstad would spend his entire career with the Angels. So it is fitting that the club’s very first bobblehead giveaway ever was in honor of him. This one was not handed out at the gates, rather was made available exclusively to season ticket holders. It’s age and scarcity make it incredibly difficult to find, and probably the only true “Holy Grail” in the Angel’s bobblehead portfolio.
