Bobble Babble: Randy Jones was one of the San Diego Padres’ first true stars and remains one of the franchise’s most beloved figures. Jones, a left-handed pitcher nicknamed “The Junkman,” played for the Padres from 1973 to 1980 (before finishing his career with the New York Mets). He was known for his pinpoint control, incredible ground-ball inducing sinker, and an almost effortless delivery that baffled hitters despite his lack of overpowering velocity. The Padres retired his No. 35 in 1997, making him one of the first Padres players so honored. The 2003 Jones was generally presented as a bobblehead in a white home uniform, but there was also a rarer version of him in a brown away uniform available as well.
