Bobble Babble: This bobblehead celebrates the unprecedented season that Shohei Ohtani delivered for the Angels in 2021. The box references “The Pitcher” who kept his opponents to a Major League low .087 batting average (against his splitter). It notes that he had a 9-2 record with a 3.18 ERA and 46 earned runs in 130.1 innings pitched. It continues by isolating his 13 home starts where he went 6-0 with a 1.95 ERA and 93 strikeouts. It closes big and bold with 156 strikeouts in 23 starts. Another side of the box talks about “The Hitter” was one of only two players in American League history to hit 45+ home runs and steal 25+ bases in a season. It indicates that he set a new single-season home run record for a Japanese-born player. And then it rattles off offensive stats including 103 runs scored, 26 doubles, 8 triples, 46 home runs, 100 RBIs, 96 walks, 26 stolen bases, and .965 OPS. Finally, we are informed that Ohtani is the first player in MLB history to record 10+ home runs as a hitter and 100+ Ks as a pitcher in the same season. Historic season, indeed.
