Bobble Babble: In his very first season with Major League Baseball Shohei Ohtani did something we have not seen in over a century: he was an impactful everyday hitter and a front-line starting pitcher in the same year. That two-way production is what made his rookie campaign feel both rare and era-defining. As an offensive asset he hit .285 with a .361 OBP and a .564 slugging percentage. He hit 22 home runs and 61 RBIs in 104 games. He was only able to make ten starts on the mound before an elbow injury ended his pitching season for the year, but in that time he had a 3.31 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 51⅔ innings (4–2 record in his starts). Ultimately, Ohtani received 25 of 30 first-place votes to easily win the Rookie of the Year award.
